The Project
Ars Sacra
Path of valorisation of Eugubine Churches
The project stems from the desire of the Diocese of Gubbio to systematise the usability of a number of Churches of the historic centre circuit, in a dialogic and strategic manner, for a broader and deeper visitation of this important heritage. The valorisation of these places does not pass only through the more or less systematic opening of the Churches, but also through moments of aggregation such as pastoral meetings for catechetical itineraries, thematic meetings on pastoral care, concerts, guided tours, exhibitions, workshops, evening openings in the summer, and other similar activities, all conceived and coordinated by the Associazione Culturale La Medusa, the managing body of the Polo Museale Diocesano, which will deploy its volunteers to provide opening services and guided tours of these splendid places of art and worship. The Churches involved in the project are: Santa Maria dei Laici detta dei Bianchi, San Pietro, Santa Croce della Foce, SS. Trinità detta della Misericordia, Santa Maria dei Servi detta al Corso, San Giuliano, Madonna del Prato. The project, supported by the Italian Episcopal Conference (IEC), was born in 2021 in the midst of the post-pandemic period, with the desire to open these places to any kind of public for their religious, artistic and cultural value and to restore identity and new ties with the citizens and the churches involved in the project.
