Church of Madonna del Prato
Our Audio Guide
Church of Madonna del Prato
The church was built between 1662 and 1678 at the behest of Bishop Sperelli on the model of the Roman church of S. Carlino alle Quattro Fontane by Francesco Borromini. The direction of the work was entrusted to Carlo Perugini from Gubbio. Only the façade differs from the illustrious Roman model. It is Baroque in style, in the form of a Greek cross with an interesting stucco ornamentation of the interior. The dome was frescoed by Francesco Allegrini, assisted by Louis Dorigny (1677-78) and a series of other frescoes by the same author. Other works in the church are by Ciro Ferri, Gaetano Lapis and Domenico Viani.
