Church of San Pietro

The church of San Pietro was one of the main religious buildings in Gubbio and, although there is no certain information, it is presumed to date back to at least 1000. It belonged to the Cassinese Benedictines and then to the Olivetans, who transformed the church and abbey in Renaissance style. The façade of the church shows traces of various interventions. The interior has a single nave and preserves the conformation given in the 16th century. Among the works of art preserved, the majestic main organ by V. Beltrami, with ornaments by Antonio and Giambattista Maffei (1580-1585), stands out on the counter façade. Also noteworthy are the paintings by Virgilio Nucci, Francesco Allegrini, Raffaelino del Colle, Rutilio Manetti and Agostino Tofanelli in the side chapels.
