The Chapel of the Sacrament was commissioned from Francesco Allegrini by Bishop

Alessandro Sperelli (1589-1672). The work is considered one of the greatest jewels left to testify to the Baroque age in Umbria.

The pictorial cycle is among the most valuable executed by the artist, who, in this chapel dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto, is engaged in making the entire decoration of the vault, the altar space and the two side lunettes.

The dome depicts the Coronation of the Virgin, while the upper part of the altar depicts The Transportation of the Holy House of Loreto and the Annunciation. The two large side lunettes depict The Consecration of the Church and The Transport of the Body of Saint John of Lodi. The decoration, which is in an excellent state of preservation, shows the stylistic features of Allegrini in the mid-1750s; in particular, we find contemporary works that draw on designs used.For example, the announcing angel placed under the altar has remarkable similarities with the one depicted in the two versions of the Annunciation in the Oratory of Mercy in Gubbio and in the Collegiate Church of Cantiano. In the figures of the prophets and saints depicted in the dome, there are similarities to frescoes painted shortly before in Rome, in the chapel of St. Alexander at Saints Cosmas and Damian. At the base of the dome, the four main saints of the Gubbio Church are portrayed together for the first time: saint Ubaldo, saint Pier Damiani, saint Giovanni da Lodi and blessed Rodolfo Gabrielli. In particular, the patron saint Ubaldo holds in his right hand the model of the city set at the foot of Mount Ingino, while in his left hand the white mitre and crosier are visible. In addition to the main monumental buildings of Gubbio and the city walls, the church named after the saint stands out on the slope of the mountain.
