Church of Holy Trinity
Our audio Guide
Church of the Holy Trinity known as the Church of Mercy
It was the seat of the Confraternity of Mercy, which was founded in 1538 with religious and charitable purposes, in particular to care for the sick poor and needy; in 1590, the Confraternity built the Church of the Most Holy Saviour and the adjoining oratory. Upon entering, one can admire the small vaulted hall with graceful stucco decorations and valuable paintings. The wall paintings are by Francesco Allegrini (Rome, 1624-1684), who also painted the canvas of the altar cymatium; while the ovates are by various authors including Lapis (Cagli 1706 – Rome 1773). Inside is the Oratory of the Confratelli, a room characterised by bright stuccoes, paintings on canvas, and wooden vestments of remarkable workmanship. With the post-unification laws, the entire complex passed to the Congregation of Charity in 1865 and was returned to the Bishop in 1944.
